Day 10 - Amarillo, Texas
Weather shocking for the 4h30m drive to Amarillo. Our first step onto Route 66 though! Starting in El Reno and picking up and dropping off various sections, unfortunately all attractions were closed, just our luck - a) due to the weather and b) they all shut Sunday d’oh. We had a good nosey around them however. On attraction that was open however was in the town of Erick, OK. The Sandhill Curiosity shop provided us with enough entertainment to last a lifetime! Harley is the greatest character and lived here with his wife from the 80’s , his wife passed but he carries on the tradition. He was drinking JD, smoking weed and serenading the ladies. Amazing place and experience- see the vid below. Met a lovely Spanish couple who we later met up with in the Steakhouse. Went to Bug Ranch after for 5 minutes
Got to the Airbnb about 5 pm after a burrito stop at Toots and Totem’s. Beautiful house and the best hosts. Everything we need. Went to Big Texan Steak House at night via Uber, great place, very touristy and klitchy, but only here for one night and was just what we needed. Had about 4 pints at the bar first, great selection on beers made at the brewery next door. Then went in for the meal - I had 30oz T bone Steak with sautéed mushrooms and Mel had 18oz Dallas with a side of potato salad. Lovely meal but huge! Uber back to the comfiest bed but Mel’s snoring kept me up all night (she’s laid up poor thing).
