Woke about 9am today, packed the backpack full of waters etc. to attempt to walk to the town of Kernville which is about 3 miles, hats on, suncream on….I think we made it about 200 metres….heat unbearable, stupid idea! Turned round and went back. Realised we were in Death Valley yesterday when it broke the world record for September for anywhere on Earth, which is cool.

Drove to Kernville, its Labor day weekend in the US so was packed with markets on etc. lovely. We went to Big Blue Bear for some lunch, I had panini with turkey and a dirty bear coffee milkshake thing. Mel had a Caesar salad. Waitress though I had a lovely accent the way I said " Dirty Bear", Mel thought I sounded camp. Walked around market then headed back. Mel stayed at lodge, while I went out for a drive in the Sierra Nevada mountains listening to music loudly. Brilliant. Then drove to Kernville to see the “tubers” going down the Kern river, proper party atmosphere everywhere. I then had a beer at the Kern Brewery, filled with fuel - now $5 a gallon, scandalous! And picked up some waters and microwave meals for tea. Headed back, wrote blog, drank, walked along the river listening to The Eagles and had tea (mac and cheese, lasagne and meatball pasta combo) and went to bed to watch the Tyler Hawkins tribute concert….totes emosh maan. Note - suddenly getting memory restrictions on photos which is frustrating as I can’t upload half when it says I can. Will split days from now on.
