Day 24 - Morro Bay, California. Up early for the 4 hour drive to Morro Bay, CA. This drive, in particular the drive through the Sequoia National park was right up there with the best! Hair raising turns and thousand foot drops aplenty, Mel was a nervous wreck…..again. flattened as we entered the ciry of Balersfield and saw the nodding donkeys of the vast oil wells that turned into wine country as we entered Paso Robles. Got to Morro Bay at about 14:30, checked in, hotel still pursuing a bizarre strict mask policy ahem. Bayfront inn on the main stretch right on the sea was a perfect location, room small with no air con but a fan so all good. Walked along the beachfront, weather perfect, mid 80’s and full sun - such a change from previous days. Seal lions and Sea otters here are amazing.

Walked to Libertine Inn for beers, realised they specialised in sours, Mel hated it, i loved it and had both. Mel did a spot of shopping and i chilled. Met her at Three stacks and a brewery - a name given due to the completely inappropriately placed massive power station on the bay - and the Morro rock opposite - a failed volcano from 5 million years ago. Watched the sunset here - stunning. Went to the Dutchmans for tea, amazing food, loved it, had clam chowder and Ciopinno which was incredible! Mel had Halibut which was lovely, had a bottle of red from afore-mentioned Paso Robles, 124 dollar bill with tip. Walked home, bed.
