Day 29 - San Francisco, CA, day 2
Lie in this morning, watching Queenie news until 9:30. Booked a Golden Gate and Alcatraz boat trip for 12:30. Set off on the slow walk up to the summit of Everest and then descended on the other side at a bakery for a large croissant for me and an iced coffee for me and Mel. Mel then had a granola yogurt with figs. Strolled around pier 39 which is really stunning while we waited for the boat to dock. We then tried to get onto the wrong boat but luckily they realised we were clueless tourists. Boat trip set sail at 12:30 - it was very choppy. Mel nervous I would drop my phone or fall overboard while flashing away. I got her a 15 dollar cocktail to ease her nerves and a 12 dollar can of beer for me - 7% ABV for lunch, the beers here are very strong! Very good trip although the commentary could have been louder. Went to pier 39 after for a clam chowder in a sourdough bap and Mel had chilli in the same, both lovely. Had a beer and a wander around all of the attractions then planned to get the cable car back, massive queues though and technical problems - of course. We scaled K2 on foot in the still quite hot temperatures. We were determined to have a curry on our last night so did some research and headed for an area just north of “Nob Hill” where our hotel is. Uber to Sweeties art bar…a really nice dive bar with a jazz band and an art expo going on. Mel had a guinness, i had a Lagunitas. Walked to a couple of bars but they were in hotel lacking character so we left them and went to a bar called La Rocca’s corner. Lovely bar, was drinking a beer on tap, had a few, realised they were 8.2%ABV! Met a lovely couple who had just got married in Scotland who lived in San Fran explaining how expensive rents are here…$3500 per month and an average price of $1.5M to buy! We then went to the highly recommended Indian next door. Curry Leaf looked nothing spectacular from the outside but lots of locals in, I had chicken spinach curry, extra spicy and Mel had Chicken Tikka Massala and rice. Mel had garlic naan and I had jalapeño garlic naan. Both meals were absolutely beautiful! So fresh tasting. Got an Uber back. We even had Rozey belly afterwards to complete the authentic feel.
